It is well documented that many key economies on the African continent are growing in leaps and bounds, yet the positive impact on development and progress in civil society is not fully realised. The role that journalism plays in society and democracy cannot be underestimated.

The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa (BMIA) aims to increase the pipeline of skilled financial journalists and analysts, embracing a data-driven journalism culture across Africa. If well trained, the contribution that financial journalists and development experts can make as continental informers, educators and watchdogs is significant.
Target Audience:
The program is intended for early or mid-career journalists, editors, analysts, public and economic policy professionals and university faculty, with an interest in financial journalism, to help them enhance their ability to interpret and explain economic and financial data, to cover critical public policy issues on the continent, and to enhance the financial journalism sector in Africa.
Delivered in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria using business school and journalism faculty, the program will be delivered through short study blocks totaling 18 days over a period of six months.

The Bloomberg Media Initiative Africa furthers Michael R. Bloomberg’s philanthropic efforts on the continent. Bloomberg’s foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, supports projects across Africa in more than
36 countries including women’s economic development, malaria research, maternal health, road safety, tobacco control and helping cities reduce their carbon footprints through C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group.

About Youth County Projects Kenya and the Founder
Violet Mbiti is the founder of the blog “Youth County Projects Kenya” that seeks to fill the knowledge and awareness gap regarding youth projects being implemented by Non-Governmental Organizations, Civil Society Organizations, Private Sector, National Government, County Governments, donors and individuals in the 47 counties in Kenya.
Violet Mbiti holds a Masters Degree in Project Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism from United States International University .She has initiated and implemented projects that cover the health sector, Renewable Energy Sector, Water Sector, Environment Sector and Social Entrepreneurship. She also sought the donors who funded the above projects.
Violet is also an alumni of the Political Leadership and Governance Programme offered by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung which is funded by the German Government and is the Vice Chairperson of Improved Stoves Association of Kenya Machakos County. Violet is an advisory council board member of Hand in Hand Eastern Africa youth project titled “The Peace and Prosperity through Job Creation”.
This platform seeks to motivate youth to initiate projects in their respective communities to achieve Vision 2030 within the social,economic and political pillars.
