CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 4th Arts4Peace Forum 2018

Date:24 to 28 January 2018, Addis Ababa-Ethiopia

African Artist Peace Initiative (AAPI) www.aapiafrica.org– Is a pan African movement ofArtists, Activists, Arts-Tivists and Peace-Tivists (AAAP), using ARTS and MEDIA, as a tool to champion a culture of peace and social justice in Africa. AAPI was formed in 2014, and officially launched in January 2015, in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia- on the margins of theAfrican Union Heads of State and Government Summit. Today, the movement has grown into 45 countries, with country coordinators.

Addis Arts

AAPI has over 15,000 members in Africa and diaspora- and 90 celebrated artists and personalities as ‘’Peace Ambassadors’’ across the continent. AAPI intends to make an innovative contribution to Peace Education and Advocacy in Africa, through ‘’Creative Thinking’’ and the ‘’Creative Arts’’.

Building on the success of the first, second and third Arts4Peace Africa Forums in 2015, 2016, and 2017; as part of pre-events of the AU January Summits. The Fourth Arts4Peace Africa Forum will held from the 24 to 28 January 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on the theme:‘’Building An Action Factory for Anti-Corruption in Africa’’. In company with African Uniontheme for 2018; ‘’Winning the Fight Against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation’’.
AAPI intends to make a unique contribution to the fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency through the Creative Arts.

United States African Development Foundation: Seeking Proposals to Support African Enterprises, Cooperatives & Producer Groups

Deadline January 29, 2018

The U.S. African Development Foundation invites proposals for grant financing and local support, from African enterprises, cooperatives, and producer groups with innovative solutions that extend their own capabilities to increase revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth.

Maximum award US $250,000

Proposals will only be accepted from registered agricultural cooperatives, small-scale producer groups, and agricultural processors working directly in the sectors and countries listed below.

Am i eligible for a grant?

USADF will only consider proposals from 100% African-owned enterprises, associations or cooperatives operating in the specified country sectors. Applicants must be legally registered in their country, with a with a proven ability to track, manage, and use internal and external resources to achieve growth.

The majority of USADF’s funding agreements range between $100,000 and $250,000.  USADF does not provide funding to government agencies, political parties, or organizations that are not based in Africa

Eligible Sectors in Kenya:Horticulture,Livestock,Dairy and Fish

NOTE:  APPLYING FOR AN USADF GRANT IS FREE, THERE IS NO FEE ASSOCIATED WITH A GRANT APPLICATION. 

SELECTION GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS

Successful Proposals Must

  • Have a clearly defined market opportunity to grow revenues that can increase farmer incomes.
  • Have a clearly defined plan of how they can increase revenues and farmer incomes in 2- 4 years.
  • Be able to make significant cash or in-kind contributions toward making the project successful.
  • Be able to impact hundreds of farmers.
  • Be able to identify additional financing options available after the USADF grant ends.

Organization Requirements

  1. The organization must be 100% African-owned and managed by country nationals.
  2. The organization must be a legally registered African entity (or in the process of becoming legally registered. Registration must be completed before any funding may be provided).
  3. The organization must demonstrate that it has successfully worked together and has the capability to effectively use grants funds..
  4. The ownership and management must be in agreement on the problem to be addressed and have a commitment to benefit their community.
  5. The organization must have basic functional management and controls to account for USADF funds.

  1. Completed Application Form. – Required
  2. Copy of a valid organization or enterprise registration form. – Required
  3. Most Recent Business Plan. – Preferred but Optional
  4. Two Years of Financial Statements  – Preferred but Optional

Grant Application Instructions

Send a copy of the completed application form and a copy of the registration document to the address listed below for your country. Be sure to include a copy of your recent business plan and financial statements if you have them.  Note: USADF is only accepting applications from cooperatives, associations, or enterprises directly involved in the sectors listed for each country in the table below. USADF is not accepting appliactions from NGOs.  Application materials submitted after January 29, 2018 will not be considered.

Westerwelle Young Founders Programme – Spring 2018

The Westerwelle Young Founders Programme is a fully funded year-long programme for 25 exceptional entrepreneurs from developing and emerging economies. As part of the programme, the Westerwelle Foundation hosts an annual conference in Berlin: the Young Founders Conference. Its focus is to connect young founders from developing and emerging economies with each other and with the German startup scene.

The participants of the Young Founders Conference will have the unique opportunity to meet and interact with successful entrepreneurs, investors and political decision makers. They will also join a network of like-minded outstanding young founders from developing and emerging economies.

  • A mentoring programme: monthly mentoring calls with an experienced entrepreneur and with the group of Westerwelle Young Founders

Timeline of the Westerwelle Young Founders Programme

10 – 14 April 2018: Young Founders Conference in Berlin, Germany

April 2018 – March 2019: Personal mentoring, peer mentoring (remotely)

Travel and accommodation for the Young Founders Conference will be covered by the Westerwelle Foundation. All fellows are expected to actively participate in the Young Founders Conference as well as in the scheduled mentoring calls.

Our requirements

  • Have recently (in the last 5 years) started a for-profit company with a scalable business model
  • Be based in a developing or emerging country or have a strong business focus on developing and emerging economies
  • Possess a good working knowledge of English

Please note that foreign applicants must possess valid travel documents (including a visa, if necessary) to enter Germany, and valid travel medical insurance.

AGCO Agribusiness Program

AGCO Corporation (a Fortune 500 Company) has partnered with Strathmore Business School(SBS), The Bridge Africa and Harper Adams University (UK) to TRAIN and SUPPORT Africa’s future leaders in AgriBusiness and Agro-industry. The program is about creating innovative solutions to feed Africa across the entire value chain.

Successful students will:

1). Get sponsorship for a 2-year Executive Education program at Strathmore Kenya. This will include a practical on-farm experience with experts in model farms.

Scaling up the Improved Cookstove Project in Taita Taveta County courtesy of the German Government

It was a pleasure meeting Her Excellency The First Lady of Taita Taveta County Madam Stella Samboja together with her entourage as well as official from the German Government wing in charge of Energy.

The meeting is a result of my initiative of creating jobs for youth through the Improved Cookstoves Project which seeks to alleviate unemployment,indoor air pollution and deforestation.Violet Mbiti Foundation implemented the project last year .The German Government is looking into expanding or scaling the initiative in the County.Thanks to Violet Mbiti Foundation Coordinator for Taita Taveta County Stephen Mwadime Mfori for the support and believing in my vision.Thanks also to members from Violet Mbiti Foundation team who accompanied me to the high level meeting.

Youth ChangeMAKERS Training of Trainers courtesy of Commonwealth Secretariat and Khalili Foundation

The Commonwealth Secretariat and the Khalili Foundation have partnered to develop the Faith in the Commonwealth project. Through the medium of global citizenship education,Faith in the Commonwealth focuses on cross-cultural literacy and respect for different worldviews and beliefs to situate individuals within the global challenges presented by the 21stcentury and give individuals the tools to understand how they can act as catalysts for change.

Faith in the Commonwealth is delivering practical, training-of-trainer workshops to give young people the skills and confidence to be leaders and agents of change in their communities. Through the Faith in the Commonwealth workshops young people will build the capabilities to lead peer-based learning sessions with young people and community leaders that explore common faith understanding, intercultural dialogue, and generate understanding and respect for different world views and beliefs.

What do the workshops include?

The workshops are led by an experienced trainer who takes a youth peer education approach. Each workshop will last for 2.5 days, with 25 participants in each group. The programme will cover knowledge and understanding of global citizenship, common faith and intercultural literacy, social cohesion and peacebuilding, and the practical application of programme learning such as designing a community-based project and campaign, advocacy and fundraising.

The workshops are designed to be practical and get participants involved, so that on completion participants are trained and ready to design and deliver outreach and education activities in their communities.

When and where are they?

Workshops will be held in Nairobi from 13-15 December 2017.

Who can participate?

Workshops are aimed at:

  • Young people in local organisations
  • Young people working with their communities in organisations, or who are active in their communities but not formally affiliated with an organisation
  • Youth workers

How do I apply?

Applications are due Tuesday 14 November 2017. The application form is attached. All applicants will be given a pre-training assessment and pre-reading. All applicants will be asked to demonstrate how they will use the skills and knowledge they’ll develop through the training within their own communities. Successful applicants will be advised on 17 November 2017.

Jiactivate Youth Devolution Dialogue in Wabiri Ward Garissa County

Dreams are indeed valid..When i started Youth County Projects Kenya in 2015 my vision was empowering youth in various counties.It was a pleasure making my maiden trip to Garissa County to empower youth.

Violet Mbiti Foundation in conjunction with Organization of African Youth Kenya Chapter convened 10 youth serving organizations and held the Jiactivate Youth Devolution Dialogue in Wabiri Ward.
