As the year is coming to a close,as Violet Mbiti Foundation(VMF),we are grateful to God for being our Shepherd so far.We took stock of what we have accomplished for the organization as well as members who believed in our cause and joined in.
Realizing the challenges youth are facing in accessing opportunities,getting exposure in National and International Platforms as well as initiating projects we decided to step in and bridge the gap by sharing local and international opportunities,initiating projects as well as give recommendation letter for members for scholarship applications,job placement e.t.c.To ensure communication we formed a whatsapp group where the members have been added to.
The list below outlines members who have applied and benefited from our initiatives,our journey starts in December 2017
In December 2017,Anita Nkirote,Judy Kiki ,Cecilia and Hassan attended the Global Youth Peace Summit.VMF had been asked by the organizer International Peace Initiatives to forward 5 names of members who would like to attend.As a follow up to that summit Anita initiated a project in Tharaka Nithi County which benefited their youth and adolescents.
Anita Nkirote was also selected to attend Political Leadership and Governance Programme organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.She also managed to travel to Belgium and Germany.
Gideon Koske was instrumental in a data collection exercise VMF was involved in conjuction with UN Major Group for Children and Youth that was carried out in 6 countries in Africa.He was also instrumental organizing Jiactivate youth meeting as well as International Digital Exchange VMF organized in conjunction with EQWIP Hubs from Canada that is based in Zanzibar,Tanzania
Judy attended a meeting organized by UN Volunteers at Gigiri and learnt best practices being done in various countries.She also attended a pan african youth summit that took place in Uganda.
Cynthia Atieno and Cecilia since they are in the medical field represented VMF at a meeting organized by Ministry of Health with the topic being how to engage youth in Universal Health Care.Thanks to Mamaye Evidence for Action who asked VMF to nominate members who will attend.
Martin was nominated by VMF to attend a Health Budget Adocacy training organized by Mamaye Evidence for Action in Nairobi County.Phoebe Kyoleand Cynthia Atieno attended World Population Day.Phoebe Kyole also represented VMF at a training organized by Organization of African Youth Kenya on Global Financing Facility with regard to adolescent and youth sexual reproductive Health
Cyrus Litswa participated in a continental Governance training targeting youth in political parties in Nigeria.
Deborah got an internship opportunity at an NGO based in Nairobi.When she mentioned she was from VMF,she got the opportunity and later rose through the ranks.Thanks Peter Otieno Cyril for supporting my member.
Samuel Matata and Stephene Auchi attended ICFP Youth Relays in Nairobi and Kisumu Counties.Stephene who hails from Vihiga County was appointed to the management board of Vicwes Sacco that is sponsored by NGAAF and Kenya Women Parliamentarian Association.
Joseph from West Pokot organized a meeting between VMF and County Government of West Pokot to see on possible ways we can empower their youth.We managed to meet the Chief Officer of Youth Affairs at the County.
Boanerges Mutuku and Erick Mutua have been selected as Youth MCAs from Machakos County and they are representing their respective wards.The patron of the Machakos Youth MCAs leadership team is H.E Deputy Governor Francis Maliti.
Dido,Hassan,Benson,Richard and Gideon participated in Jiactivate Youth Events.Dido helped organize Isiolo County Jiactivate event while Gideon Koske helped organize Bomet Jiactivate Youth Event.
Agathon Angembe who is congolese and a member of VMF invited us to attend the swearing in of top leadership of DRC diaspora team based in Kenya at DRC embassy.
As VMF,we are happy that the construction of Kwa Masisya dam in Wamunyu Machakos County is now complete and agribusiness is now taking place around the dam thus benefiting the youth.VMF in conjuction with Doors of Hope organized a job creation exercise for persons with disability who managed to be selected and are currently attending job training.Violet Mbiti Foundation through its brand Youth County Projects Kenya was invited by Women Deliver to attend the launch of Deliver for Good Campaign in Kenya.VMF members participated in a 3 day health budget advocacy training in Nairobi County conducted by Mamaye Evidence for Action as well as participating during World Population Day.Our CEO was also featured on KBC English Service where she talked about Family Planning.Violet Mbiti Foundation as a member of Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network participated at the 5th International Conference on Family Planning in Kigali and the network was featured on Global Health Now and BBC Swahili.
Violet has been able to travel this year to Dubai,Abu Dhabi,Macedonia in Eastern Europe,Uganda,Rwanda and Botswana.She was also elected as the Co-Chair of the Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network and won an award as 1st Runners Up Diversity and Inclusion Outstanding Business Leader in Kenya under 40.Violet has also been elected into the steering committee of Young African Activist Network .
