Round Table Meeting with Council of Governors Health Committee

It was a pleasure for Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network where Violet Mbiti Foundation is a member organization to hold a round table discussion with Council of Governors Health Committee.

As you remember, last month we carried out the health budget advocacy in 5 counties namely Busia, Nairobi, Siaya, Bomet and Bungoma. The Devolution Youth Caravan transversed 5 counties namely Kajiado, Machakos, Nairobi, Kiambu and Nyeri.We attended the Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County to share our key asks focused on opportunities for youth and adolescents on meaningful participation within Universal Health Coverage. We also conducted Artistic Activation in Mombasa County.

We are glad that the Council of Governors has stated it will work with us in the implementation of their final communique No 14 which seeks to address the issues raised by adolescents and youth.

Participating in AHAIC Pre-Youth Conference in Kigali,Rwanda

Young people from various countries in Africa came together for the AHAIC 2019 Youth Conference to meaningfully deliberate on strategies, scientific approaches and investments made on the improvement of their health. The Conference reviewed the 2013 Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) commitment by 23 countries, to tackle issues facing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRHR) with a focus on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE); and the 2006 African Union, African Youth Charter 2020 and the role of the youth in achieving Sustainable Development Goals 2030. #Youth4UHC#AHAICYouth2019#AHAIC2019

Health Budget Advocacy in Bomet,Bungoma,Busia,Nairobi and Siaya Counties by KAYSRH Network

Violet Mbiti Foundation was trained by Mamaye Evidence4Action on Health Budget Advocacy in Nairobi County.With the knowledge attained,we utilised the knowledge attained together with our peers at Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network where Violet Mbiti Foundation is a member.

Health Budget Advocacy targeting Youth and Adolescents was conducted in Bomet, Siaya, Bungoma, Busia and Siaya courtesy of Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network. Memo for the different counties were submitted to the respective County Treasuries with regard to County Fiscal Strategy Paper 2019/20.The memos were submitted during the public participation forums.

Success was seeing Nairobi County increase allocation for health which now stands at Ksh 7.195 billion up from 6.8 billion which was earlier proposed.Our advocacy efforts paid off.Health Commodities/drugs has been allocated Ksh 700 million and community health volunteers Ksh 100 million.

Youth Devolution Caravan on Universal Health Coverage that transversed 5 counties.

Attending 6th Devolution Conference in Kirinyaga County

As Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network  where Violet Mbiti Foundation is a member,we managed to share the views of Kenyan youth collected during the Youth Devolution Caravan to policy makers and development partners at the 6th Devolution Conference.We also shared the research findings conducted by Guttmacher on Adolescent Health .Violet Mbiti serves as the Co-Chair of Kenya Adolescent and Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Network.

Youth Leadership Training organized by FES YLT Alumni Association. Violet Mbiti is in the Interim Steering Committee of Young African Activist Network where I sit with comrades from Western Africa, Southern Africa and East Africa. The ISC is represented by Senegal, Nigeria, Uganda, Namibia, Botswana and Kenya.
