• Applicants must be accepted and hold an offer for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught programme.
• Applicants must be paying an international tuition fee.
• Applicants are required to hold at least a minimum of ABB at A Level or equivalent qualification to be admitted at the University of Wolverhampton.
• Applicants are required to attain minimum scores in the following English language proficiency tests:
  • IELTS – 0 with no less than 5.5 in any component
  • TOEFL – 79 overall with no less than 19 in all four skills
  • PTE Academic – 54 with no less than 51 in all skills

In the framework of the International Decade for People of African Descent, OHCHR is inviting proposals to support projects of civil society and non-government organizations that aim at promoting and protecting the human rights of people of African descent through the IDPAD grant scheme.

Funding Information

The IDPAD grant scheme is for a maximum duration of 12 months and the amount requested from OHCHR for the implementation of the project cannot exceed 15,000 USD.

Project Activities

Projects can include the following activities, amongst others:

• seminars, workshops, trainings;
• capacity building activities;
• institutional strengthening activities
• advocacy

The following activities will not be covered:

• individual sponsorships for participation in workshops, seminars, conferences, congresses;
• one-off conferences;

University Of Cape Town African MasterCard Foundation Scholarships 2022

The Mastercard Foundation in partnership with the University of Cape Town (UCT), South Africa Invites applications from Africans who are looking to pursue a degree program in UCT.

These scholarships cover the full period of study and are renewable annually subject to satisfactory performance and participation in the activities and opportunities offered by the programme. Successful candidates will be required to commit themselves to returning to their home countries and to invest their gained skills and education in their country’s social and economic growth.

Although UCT was founded by a private act of Parliament in 1918, the Statute of the University of Cape Town (issued in 2002 in terms of the Higher Education Act) sets out its structure and roles and places the Chancellor – currently, Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe – as the ceremonial figurehead and invests real leadership authority in the Vice Chancellor, currently Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng, who is accountable to the University Council. UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme

The Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalism Fellowship was mandated in December 1980 by UN General Assembly Resolution 35/201. Formerly known as the DPI Training Programme for Broadcasters and Journalists from Developing Countries, the programme was renamed in 2003 in honor of Reham Al-Farra, a 29-year-old Jordanian public information officer who was killed in the 19 August 2003 bombing of the UN headquarters in Baghdad.

The Fellowship is a unique opportunity for young (22 to 35), working journalists from developing countries and countries with economies in transition to cover the United Nations. Hosted every autumn at UN Headquarters, the programme brings a select group of journalists to New York to cover the opening of the General Assembly for their news outlets.

During the 3-week programme, fellows have an opportunity to attend special briefings, interview senior officials and exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world. In previous years, fellows have met with the UN Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, President of the General Assembly and permanent representatives to the United Nations. The programme also arranges visits to various news organizations, such as the New York Times, Democracy Now! and BuzzFeed.

Since its founding in 1981, the fellowship has been awarded to 611 journalists from 168 countries. Upon completion of the programme, fellows are expected to continue working in journalism and promote better understanding of the United Nations in their home countries. The programme does not provide basic skills training, as all fellows are working journalists.

Eligibility Requirements for the UN Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme

To meet the eligibility requirements, candidates must:

• be between 22 and 35 years old
• be a full-time working journalist
• be fully proficient in written and oral English 
• be able to connect virtually daily for three weeks during working hours NY time from around mid-September to the beginning of October 2022
• be a national of a developing country or country in transition, as defined by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (see list of eligible countries below)

The African Liberty Writing Fellowship Program 2022/2023

The African Liberty Writing Fellowship program is a year-long program designed to train young Africans interested in the academia, media, public policy, or any other critical-and-analytical-writing-related career, in opinion article writing. Accepted applicants will complete a five-week mandatory online course. The top thirty-five candidates from the five-week training will be admitted as African Liberty Writing Fellows.

The program, from the 5-week training to the last day of fellowship, is done entirely online.

African Liberty was founded in 2007 as a project of the Cato Institute and IMANI Africa, thereafter the Atlas Network. It is a platform for advancing individual freedom, peace, and prosperity in Africa by promoting civil discussion and debate about social, legal, economic, and world issues affecting Africans.

They identify and train young promising African freedom advocates in professional journalistic writing and help them kickstart careers in journalism and policy by working with Africa-focused think tanks and partner media outlets.

They produce and promote original reporting, interviews, and commentary to raise the level of substantive discussion both among Africans and between Africa and the rest of the world.

They carry out these responsibilities through a network of young writers, researchers, and commentators covering topics related to human rights, free expression, economic development, technology, criminal justice, entrepreneurship, and much more.

African Liberty is an editorially-independent platform powered by African Students For Liberty (ASFL).

The DAAD is providing tuition, stipends, and accommodation for a two-year degree program at the University of Ghana.

The DAAD In Country/In Region Scholarships progra aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master or doctoral studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and / or research at a higher education institution in Sub Sahara Africa.

The University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the thirteen Ghanaian national public universities. It was founded in 1948, in the British colony of the Gold Coast, as the University College of the Gold Coast, and was originally an affiliate college of the University of London, which supervised its academic programs and awarded degrees. After independence in 1957, the college was renamed the University College of Ghana. It changed its name again to the University of Ghana in 1961, when it gained full university status. The University of Ghana is situated on the West view of the Accra Legon hills and at the northeast of the centre of Accra, now has various schools, institutions, colleges and departments and has over 40,000 registered students.

2022 Internews’ Earth Journalism Network Virtual Reporting Fellowships to the UNCCD COP15

Internews’ Earth Journalism Network is pleased to announce a virtual fellowship program that will support selected African journalists to cover the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) taking place in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, in May 2022.

The UNCCD COP15 will be a key gathering to review progress made to control and reverse further loss of productive land from desertification, land degradation and drought. The theme for this year’s event — ‘Land. Life. Legacy: From scarcity to prosperity’ — is a call to action to ensure land, the lifeline on this planet, continues to benefit present and future generations.

A mix of representatives from national, regional, and local governments, science and research communities, the private sector, international and non-governmental organizations and all forms of media are expected to address these issues during the two-week event, which is scheduled to take place from 9-20 May 2022.

Eligibility Requirements for the Internews’ Earth Journalism Network Virtual Reporting Fellowships

To be eligible for the Fellowship, applicants must:

• Be a professional journalist from or representing an established media house and reporting from a low- or middle-income country in Africa;
• Be of African citizenship;
• Have a good command of the English language;
• Have previous experience reporting on desertification and degradation issues, and can clearly indicate the kinds of stories they might pursue during the conference;
• Be available between 7-20 May 2022;
• Commit to participate in all Fellowship activities;
• Provide a letter of support from an editor, producer or supervisor who can confirm that your news reports will be published or broadcast in an established media outlet. Freelancers are welcome to apply, but must provide a letter of support from a media outlet for which they intend to report.

  • Ten African journalists will be awarded virtual fellowships and receive training, mentorship, and other support to facilitate remote reporting on this important event.

The JAMII Femmes Programme 2022 for African women Entrepreneurs

In 2022, Women In Africa and The Coca-Cola Foundation join forces to support 20,000 African women entrepreneurs over the next three years through the “JAMII Femmes” initiative. The JAMII Femmes initiative aims to increase the impact of African women entrepreneurs on the African economy and support the creation of innovative solutions for sustainable development that will contribute to positive change in Africa by improving the quality of life of tens of thousands of people.

For this first year, the Coca-Cola Foundation and Women In Africa are offering a multi-phase programme to 7,000 women from three countries.

The first phase is a 4-month digital training phase, conducted by WIA’s partner, Honoris United Universities, Africa’s first and largest network of private higher education institutions, which will enable them to develop skills in:

• behavioural intelligence,
• critical thinking,
• creativity and design thinking,
• communication, collaboration,
• entrepreneurship.

In the second phase, selected beneficiaries will have access to grants.

Finally, in the third phase, selected beneficiaries will be able to participate in an accelerator programme, after which a special prize of USD 10,000 will be awarded per country.

Eligibility Requirements for the The JAMII Femmes Programme

• Women over 18 years old
• Nationals * or residents of Nigeria, Kenya or Ivory Coast
• Entrepreneur
• Mainly in the Agriculture sector and/or in relation to the sustainable development objectives defined by UNESCO

*Please note that the applicant’s business or project must have a direct impact on the African continent. The candidate must be able to be present in the country of selection if she is selected for the acceleration phase, in case she does not reside there.

The 3 pillars of the programme

Access to education

7,000 women entrepreneurs will benefit from a digital programme on entrepreneurship and social and personal skills. The sessions, led by WIA’s knowledge partner and Africa’s first and largest network of private higher education institutions, Honoris United Universities, will provide women with a principled approach to developing creative ideas, as well as knowledge on leadership and management skills.

With the accelerator programme, 70 women entrepreneurs from 3 countries will benefit from an in-depth support programme and coaching.

Access to finance

600 women entrepreneurs will receive grants to support their business development and increase their impact on communities. 

At the end of the programme, one laureate per country will receive a prize of $10,000 to support her project.

Network access and visibility

The programme will give participants lifetime access to the WIA network, and thus, to potential collaborators throughout Africa.
WIA will create an Advisory Council for each country, composed of local personalities who will accompany the programme. Therefore, women entrepreneurs will be able to be in contact with these prominent personalities. 
They will be highlighted on WIA’s social media throughout the programme.

The Africa Business Heroes Competition 2022

Africa Business Heroes (ABH) is the Jack Ma Foundation’s flagship philanthropic program in Africa to support entrepreneurs. The mission is to showcase and grow local talent who are creating positive impact in their communities and beyond, and inspire a movement of African entrepreneurship. Over a ten-year period, the program will recognize 100 African entrepreneurs and provide grant funding, training programs, and broader support for the broad African entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Africa Business Heroes directly supports talented and promising African entrepreneurs through its namesake Prize competition. Each year the Prize selects ten “business heroes” from across Africa that compete for their share of USD 1.5 million in grant funding. JUDGING PROCESS

To identify our heroes, ABH run a 4-step application process.

Round 1

• An online review of submitted applicants to determine our Top 50 Finalists.
• Each application will be reviewed by two judges.
• The Top 50 Finalists will be determined by the average scores of all applications.
  
  Round 2
• Video-Call interviews with two established business leaders who engage in a 1 hour and a half in-depth assessment of the company and finalist.
• The Top 20 Finalists will be determined by the average scores of all 50 Finalists.
  
  Due diligence
• The Top 20 Finalists will need to pass due diligence checks by ABH partner: Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) in order to move to the Semi-Finale round.
  Semi-Final Pitch
• Theshort-listed finalists will pitch to a panel of distinguished and experienced panel of investors, business leaders and professionals who will determine the Top 10 Finalists.

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN74) Fellowship Program 2022

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has opened the  Fellowship Program application round for ICANN74. This round is open only to those who have previously completed an ICANN Fellowship because ICANN74 is a Policy Forum. The meeting is scheduled for 13-16 June 2022 in The Hague, Netherlands. If ICANN74 is held virtually, the Fellowship Program will also be held virtually.

The goal of the ICANN Fellowship Program is to strengthen the diversity of the multistakeholder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active participants in the ICANN community.

Fellows are exposed to the workings of the ICANN community, are assigned a mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill building before, during, and after an ICANN Public Meeting. Travel assistance to attend the meeting is also provided.

Eligibility criteria for the ICANN74 Fellowship Program

Candidates from all regions and sectors are welcome to apply to the ICANN Fellowship Program.

Participants of the Fellowship Program must:

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Be interested in, or already engaged in, the various components of ICANN’s work in policy building, the operation of the Domain Name System and the security and stability of the global Internet
• Complete mandatory ICANN Learn course(s); learn more here
• NOT be involved in or associated with other ICANN supported travel programs at time of selection
• Policy Forum applicants must have successfully completed an ICANN Fellowship

Eligibility Requirements for the Acumen East Africa Accelerator for Ventures Serving Displaced People

This accelerator is open to entrepreneurs who:

• Run a for-profit social enterprise based in Kenya, Uganda, or Ethiopia
• Are advancing self-reliance in and between forcibly displaced populations and their hosting communities in at least one of the following ways:
  • Serving communities vulnerable to displacement, forcibly displaced populations and/or hosting communities as customers
  • Providing decent work and employment to communities vulnerable to displacement, forcibly displaced populations, or hosting communities
  • Sourcing from communities who are affected by displacement, communities vulnerable to displacement, or hosting them
• Have a demonstrated track record of at least 1-3 years, some market traction, and are preparing to scale
• Favorable consideration will be given to teams promoting climate resilient solutions

• Refine and develop a profitable and scalable business model
• Identify key opportunities for growth while supporting either displaced or hosting communities through market, workforce, and value-chain entry points

The Wittenstein Foundation/Einstein Forum Fellowship 2023

The Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Foundation offer a fellowship for outstanding young thinkers who wish to pursue a project in a different field from that of their previous research. The purpose of the fellowship is to support those who, in addition to producing outstanding work in their area of specialization, are also interested in other, interdisciplinary approaches—following the example set by Albert Einstein.

The Einstein Forum is a foundation of the German federal state of Brandenburg that serves the public as an open laboratory of the mind. Through a varied program of conferences, workshops, podium discussions, and lectures it brings together original thinkers from all over the world to test new ideas—and interrogate conventional ones—with a general audience.

Topics span the arts and humanities, natural and social sciences, ethics and politics. Whatever the subject, speakers are urged to think outside traditional academic boundaries. Our multidisciplinary emphasis encourages dialogue not only among experts from different fields but also, and just as importantly, between specialists and the public at large.

Underlying the Einstein Forum’s programming, along with the books and articles published by our staff, is an abiding belief that thinking has a purpose besides advancing scholarly and scientific knowledge. • Candidates must be under 35 and hold a university degree in the humanities, in the social sciences, or in the natural sciences. 
• Applications for 2023 should include a CV, a two-page project proposal, and two letters of recommendation. 

At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow will be expected to present his or her project in a public lecture at the Einstein Forum and at the Wittenstein Foundation. The Einstein Fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun.

A successful application must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the superior intellectual development of the applicant. It is not relevant whether the applicant has begun working toward, or currently holds, a PhD. The proposed project need not be entirely completed during the time of the fellowship, but can be the beginning of a longer project.

Benefits

The fellowship includes living accommodations for five to six months in the garden cottage of Einstein`s own summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, only a short distance away from the universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin.

The Deutschlandstipendium at German Universities

High-achieving students from all over the world who wish to study Bachelors and Masters degree programs at public and state recognised universities in Germany, may apply for the Deutschlandstipendium, which is the largest public-private partnership scholarship program in Germany. Many universities and private sponsors also support Deutschlandstipendium holders through concurrent mentoring programmes, networking events and internships.

The Deutschlandstipendium provides financial and non-material support to high-achieving and committed students from all over the world. Modelled after the principle of public-private partnership, businesses, foundations or private individuals sponsor young talent with a pledge of 150 euros per month. The Federal Government matches this amount with another 150 euros. But there is even more: Many universities and private sponsors also support Deutschlandstipendium holders through concurrent mentoring programmes, networking events and internships.

Minor Foundation for Major Challenges Small and Large Grants Programme

The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges (MFMC) has launched Small and Large Grants to support communication projects which advance the transition to a low carbon economy.

MFMC supports projects that support urgent, large-scale transformation, with a focus on changing policies and practices in public or private institutions.

Priorities

The foundation’s priorities for the 2019-2023 period are to:

• encourage and support innovation in climate communication.

Funding Information

• In larger grants: The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges is looking for projects above EUR 10,000 – typically in the range of €20,000 to €200,000, although larger projects may be considered.
• In small grants: It is possible to apply for smaller grants of up to EUR 10,000, provided that the application falls within the strategic aims of MFMC.

DAAD EPOS International Master’s Scholarships at University of Hohenheim in Germany

In collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a limited number of scholarships are available for MSc. Agricultural Economics at the University of Hohenheim under the special initiative “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” (EPOS).
